Awareness Activities make health information available to all students. The most common type of Awareness Activity is "tabling". At a campus-wide event, interns set up a table at a populated location on campus. There, they will distribute information about Student Health, as well as health topics of interest to students. For example, "Sex Affair" is an on-campus event sponsored by the Sex and Relationship Interns that uses the "Tunnel of Love" to exhibit sexual health information. Another example put on by HEAL, the "Celebrate Your Body" Fair is a campus event in which live music and healthy food are available. Interns are also active in special events sponsored by other community and university organizations. Often, Interns will make their table and presence known. For instance, Sex & Relationship interns can sometimes be heard shouting, "Free condoms! Get your free condoms here!" Interns will be able to exhibit their communication skills through this type of information sharing. They spread information about resources and health topics by passing out pamphlets, discussing them, and answering questions. |
